Path to anarchy

A few days after, criminals attacked and robbed the Blue Gardinia Restaurant around 10 pm. The press reported that the criminals wore no masks. Clearly, they were very bold. Even more so is the location of this business, it is literally a stone’s throw from the Couva Police Station. The criminal element has no respect for or fear of the police.

But then the case of the burning of two cars parked on the compound of the Cunupia Police Station is so very worrying.

If the criminal element can successfully carry out this attack then what are citizens left to think about their security, that criminals can attack at will.

What is even more worrying was the issue of the missing cocaine from the Morvant Police Station. Clearly, the secured drugs had to be stolen by member(s) of that station, either for personal use or for trade or both. In all three cases, the criminal element is not apprehended. Nor are the members of the Police Service censured for their lack of action. The criminal element, within and outside of Police Service, has developed the confidence that they can engage in criminal actions with full confidence that they will get away.

And herein lies the path to anarchy. These incidents are having the effect of destabilising one’s sense of security. One’s person and property can be attacked with impunity by criminals and those responsible for the maintenance of security have been unable to do anything.

Hence the fears of the Couva business group must be supported and shared by all. What is even worrying, the express fears about the future, that the situation is not about to improve. Security, therefore, remains the country’s number one priority.
