Thom made this comment on Friday at her first public appearance since competing in this year’s Miss Universe Pageant. On Friday she was presented with the keys to her brand new Suzuki Swift. She returned last week from Los Angeles where the pageant, which was won by Miss Puerto Rico, Zuleyka Rivera, was held. The presentation of the vehicle was made during Thom’s official recognition ceremony and press conference held at the Lifestyle Motors showroom on the Churchill Roosevelt Highway, San Juan.

In making the presentation to the beauty queen, the dealership’s Business Development Manager, Stanley Mc Millan, said that his organisation was honoured to recognise another young person since there were so many negative things associated with young people in the society. Mc Millan said that Thom had made the country proud with her refreshingly consistent performances both at Miss World in 2004 and Miss Universe 2006. Thom declared that she would do it all over again even if the final result remained unchanged and was thankful for all the support that was extended to her throughout the journey.

Adrian Raymond, Associate Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Pageant Company, said that many people become involved in pageantry to elevate themselves but Thom had elevated the Miss Trinidad and Tobago title and she would be used as a model for local delegates to follow.

Raymond said that she was one of the most photographed contestants at the pageant and ensured that Trinidad and Tobago was well represented.

Peter Elias, Director of the Trinidad and Tobago Pageant Company, said that they had not received the pageant’s official score sheet as yet and did not know Thom’s final ranking in the competition. Thom told the Sunday Newsday that she would be returning to her job as an accountant at the Water and Sewerage Authority but unsure about her next move in the fashion industry.
