Panday: I wish UK cops succeed

FORMER opposition leader Basdeo Panday yesterday was critical of the appointment of 27 British police officers as Special Reserve Police (SRP) officers.
He questioned whether they would help the Police Service to turn the tide in the war against crime in Trinidad and Tobago.
Panday said he wished them well but was not sure what kind of impact they could have on the efforts to combat crime.
The former UNC chairman claimed that the statistics appear to show that crime is worse right now than it was during the same period last year.
On Friday, the Ministry of National Security announced that 27 British police officers had been appointed as SRPs by Police Commissioner Trevor Paul. Among those appointed as SRPs are former Scotland Yard commander Ian Delbarre and retired detective Chief Inspector David King. Both men were appointed at the rank of Assistant Commissioner of Police.
