Small, who helped Barbados win the West Indies Senior limited overs title in St Lucia in June, smashed 76 not out and got good support from Deandra Dottin, who made 41.

The versatile Dottin, who won two gold medals (shot put and javelin) in the Under-17 class at last month’s Central American and Caribbean (CAC) Junior track and field championship in Trinidad, was also a member of the winning Barbados senior squad in St Lucia.

Bowling for Trinidad and Tobago, Amanda Samaroo picked up three for 34.

When TT replied, Sharda Saroop top-scored with 35 in their fighting effort but they fell short against captain Shakera Selman and Tiffany Thorpe, who shared four wickets.

Medium pace Tiffany Thorpe bagged two for 23 and medium-pacer Selman picked up two for 24.

“I feel pretty good, we batted well, especially Danielle Small and Deandra Dottin,” Barbados manager Alfred Campbell told CMC Sport.

“It is very good for us to win our opening match, more importantly to beat Trinidad and Tobago who are one of the leading teams in the tournament,” Campbell added.

In a non-championship (developmental) match, the President’s XI beat Jamaica by three wickets at the University of Technology (UTECH).

Top batter Stafanie Taylor hit 32 in Jamaica’s 101 all out in 17.4 overs against Chadeen Nation (3-6) and Chris-Ann Chambers (3-17), and the President’s XI responded with 102 for seven in 33.4 overs.

Tameika Sanford top-scored for the winners with 27 not out, while Taylor led Jamaica’s bowling with three for 12.

The tournament continued yesterday with TT facing Jamaica at UWI and Barbados tackling the President’s XI at Melbourne.
