Sealy on target for Wizards

Sealy scored — Kansas City’s second goal — early in the match, adding to other strikes by Davy Arnaud, Sasha Victorine and Ryan Pore as the Wizards’ emphatically terminated a miserable nine-game winless streak.

Arnaud sent the Wizards ahead after only four minutes, and Sealy, who narrowly missed with a bullet 20-yard shot in the second minute, made it 2-0 in the 17th minute for the Wizards, who had Jamaican Shavar Thomas in their defence.

Dave van den Bergh struck a low cross for Sealy, who pulled away from his marker, to deflect past Bill Gaudette into the goal.

Sealy went close to scoring again two minutes later but Gaudette pushed his shot over the crossbar.

Victorine (78th) and Pore (89) then sealed the match with late goals to sink Columbus, who had the St Vincent and the Grenadines (SVG) international Ezra Hendrickson in their line-up.

Hendrickson missed the Crew’s best chance of the match when he headed over the crossbar from close range in the 58th minute.

Houston Dynamo moved closer to the top of the Western Conference standings when they beat leaders FC Dallas 1-0 on a Craig Waibel first-half goal at Robertson Stadium.

With 39 points, FC Dallas are four points ahead of Houston (35), with Colorado third in the west on 31 points.

In other matches, Chivas USA beat Chicago Fire 2-1 at Toyota Park on goals from Juan Pablo Garcia and Claudio Suarez, and the Colorado Rapids defeated the Los Angeles Galaxy 1-0 at Invesco Field.

LA Galaxy, the defending champions, were without their two Caribbean stars because of injury — Trinidad and Tobago’s forward Cornell Glen (knee) and Jamaican defender Tyrone Marshall (hip).DC United are runaway leaders in the Eastern Conference with 45 points, 17 ahead of New England (28), with Kansas City (25) third.
