Bajans go past TT’s score

Brathwaite hit a polished 92 and Yearwood a compact 62 as the Barbadians — replying to Trinidad and Tobago’s first innings total of 191 — closed in the healthy position of 311 for seven, an overall lead of 120 with three wickets remaining.

Barbados resumed on 35 without loss and added just 12 before Roger Williams (12) was smartly stumped by wicketkeeper Somant Maraj, off the bowling of debutant leg-spinner Gareth Boodhai.

The tall right-handed Brathwaite joined Yearwood and added 61 in 73 minutes for the second wicket, before Yearwood perished for a well played 62, caught by wicketkeeper Maraj off the bowling of part-time off-spinner Marlon Barclay.

The right-handed Yearwood, who scored a massive 186 — against the Windwards — in the opening round of the tournament, batted for 144 minutes, faced 113 balls and struck nine fours.

Barbados went to lunch on 127 for two. On the resumption, Brathwaite in tandem with skipper Shamarh Brooks (27) added a further 47 before the latter was trapped in front to off-spinner Sunil Narine, with the total on 165 for three.

Brathwaite found another useful partner in Kyle Hope (27) and gathered an important 71 runs in 69 minutes for the fourth wicket before they were separated.

Brathwaite was caught and bowled by part-time medium pacer Darren Bravo with the total reading 236 for four.

He batted for 205 minutes, faced 194 balls, and struck six fours and one six.

After the tea break, Barbados despite losing three wickets, continued the onslaught on the TT bowlers, with Jonathan Carter hitting an unbeaten 44, with three fours and one six, before stumps were drawn.

Carter has so far batted for 105 minutes and faced 78 balls.

Fast-bowler Kemar Roach was the other not out batsman on seven.

Barbados will start today’s final day hunting their second straight win.
