Two autopsies for Tammy

Baksh told Newsday yesterday that American Airlines has agreed to transport the dead dog to the United States, but only with a certified copy of the Cause of Death.

Baksh, who on Monday decided to sue a veterinarian for her dog’s death and therefore needed to have an US autopsy, said she was indeed saddened by the airline’s request. “I have to get it done locally before Tammy can be shipped abroad,” Baksh told Newsday. “I have no choice in the matter, but at least it is one step closer to getting justice.” After Baksh visited American Airlines in Port-of-Spain yesterday, she began making arrangements with a funeral home to prepare the dog for the local autopsy.

Baksh, 36, of Rushworth Street, San Fernando, has kept her dog in a freezer after it died on May 27. She complained that a local veterinarian acted negligently in the diagnosis and treatment of Tammy. The dog died after the visit to the vet.

She plans to take legal action against the local veterinary clinic where the dog was treated and her attorney, Rennie Gosine, has written to the vet requesting medical records with a view to suing for negligence.

Baksh began making preparations to take the dog to Las Vegas, where her sister resides, for the autopsy.
