Defence Force shoot down NFM in thriller

It was actually one of the better performances by the Flour men on Sunday night.

At one point, “Flour” opened up a 13-point lead but inside the final quarter when the Army-Coast Guard combination found their rhythm Steven “Lighter” Lewis led the scoring for Defence Force with 23 points and Wilt Vincent added 17.

“Flour” committed a cluster of crucial turnovers, including one approximately ten seconds from the final buzzer on which Lewis scored.

Peter Lewis contributed 15 points to the Army-coast Guard victory including a lay-up to knot up the scores 79-79.

NFM led the first three quarters 21-19; 45-38 and 67-54 and looked on the way to victory.

There was enough time on the clock for “Flour” to knot up the score and send the game into overtime, but Andy Best missed a jumper.

In the opening match of the double-header, Caledonia Clippers beat T&T Elite 98-88 with an extremely impressive performance from Miguel Williams who scored a game-high 44 points.

The Army will next face the T&T Elite tomorrow from 8 pm at the Complex while Drillers and TUCO Macoya Forum will square off in the opening encounter at 6.15 pm.

Today Drillers have a date with Carenage Warriors in the first of another double header at 6.15 pm. The other match is between Detour Shak Attack and NFM from 8 pm.
