21 on speeding charge

The exercise, police sources said, is an ongoing one and comes on the heels of a spate of fatal vehicular accidents which police investigators have attributed to excessive speeding and reckless driving.

Police sources said the officers led by Sgt Neville “Toco Burroughs” Sankar and including Ag Sgt Ken Lutchman and PCs Curtis Kheerai and Sheldon Kassiram, carried out the exercise between 10 am and 1 pm.

Officers hid themselves in the bushes off the roads in order to detect the speedsters. New head of Police Traffic Branch ACP Dudley Ferguson has mandated his officers to be more vigilant in cracking down on motorists who flout the Traffic Laws.
