Man ambushed, shot dead

According to police reports, at about 8.35 pm, Anton Caine was on his way to visit a friend when he was reportedly ambushed by a group of men who opened fire at the car.

Three of the bullets penetrated the car’s windscreen and struck Caine in the chest. Residents who heard the gunshots telephoned the police and officers from the Homicide Bureau and the Crime Scene Unit arrived on the scene to find Caine already dead. DMO Dr Klerk visited the scene and ordered the body removed to the Forensic Science Centre.

Sources told Newsday the deceased had no criminal record nor was he known to be in any gang. As such, sources said, they remain baffled as to the motive for his killing. Investigations are continuing.
