THOMAS Targets Youth With His Music
On Sunday, he launched his solo debut album entitled Protector at the National Library in Port-of-Spain to an appreciative crowd. Thomas wrote nine of the 12 songs featured on the album which took one and a half years to record.
The lead single off his album is the title track “Protector” which is getting generous airplay on several popular radio stations. The album was produced by Isaac Blackman and features guest appearances by several top local gospel acts.
Currently, the JGN label has four main acts — The Love Circle, Joel B and Neilo, Dixie-Ann Hunte and Kevin Thomas. However, Isaac Blackman, the company’s main producer and CEO has also recently enjoyed success with his hit single “To The Ceiling” as well as work done for other artistes such as Rem Bunction, Sheldon Blackman, Christafari and Sean Daniel to name a few.
Notable cameos on Thomas’ album include Gitta Dan on “Precious,” Marge Blackman-Mohamed on “The River of God,” and Isaac Blackman and Koen Duncan on “Army of God.” Nehilet, Isaac and Marge Blackman along with Reisha St Hilaire are all assisting on background vocals.
All 12 songs were arranged and produced Jamoo style — a style of music created by the late Ras Shorty I. However, the Bonus track which is a remix of his song “Beautiful” — also on the album — has a techno vibe to it.
“The album is targeting the youths even though the sound of the album is a mature one,” said Thomas. “It invites everyone to think about God — whatever God may mean to them — and to give Him (God) a chance to bring us back to where we want to be as a nation. You have to remember that, whatever circumstances you may have to deal with, God is there for you so give him a chance.”
Thomas is no newcomer to the music scene. He was a member of the now defunct WoodTrin Steel Orchestra and was the 2001 leader of the Arouca Youth Choral. He was also the musical director of the Five Rivers Youth Choral from June 2003 to September 2005. Thomas has been actively involved in Jamoo music for approximately two years and has sung back-up vocals on a number of JGN projects.
Protector will be available at all major record stores by August 28. However, if you wish to obtain a copy before then or would like more information on Thomas or his CD, you can e-mail him at kevont2000@yahoo.com or kevonthomas@hotmail.com.
