SBAs not sent to CAPE

The students, who sat the examinations in May, were told CAPE officials were yet to receive their school-based assessments (SBA).

Acting vice principal, Cholo Mahadeo, insists the school sent the SBAs to the CAPE examiners.

“We have receipts proving that we sent the students’ work,” said Mahadeo, on Friday.

Mahadeo said the school plans to raise the matter with the Ministry of Education.

In spite of this setback, Iere High is pleased with its school’s performance at CAPE, saying it recorded a 95 percent pass rate overall.

“We are very pleased with the results that we have received this year,” said Mahadeo.

The Ministry of Education’s communications specialist Mervyn Crichlow promised to investigate the SBA case when contacted by Newsday on Friday.

He said a release would soon be issued on the overall results of CAPE.

In their first attempt at the CAPE examinations, Shiva Boys Hindu College did well.

Principal Dexter Sakal said the school obtained 100 percent passes in Accounts, Economics and Communication Studies.

“Thirteen out of 15 candidates passed Pure Mathematics and 14 of 15, passed Physics,” said Sakal.

Students attained an average grade III in Accounts and in Pure Mathematics, 30 percent of the candidates gained a grade I and 40 percent got grade IIs.
