Caroni Swamp boat, engines stolen

A pirogue valued at $15,000 and two boat engines worth an estimated $72,000, which were secured in a boat house at the swamp facility, were stolen between Saturday night and yesterday morning.

According to a police report, security guards stationed at the facility secured the boat house at about 5 pm on Saturday. When they returned at 7 am yesterday, the guards noticed the padlocks to the boat house were missing. Upon further checks, police said, a pirogue, which was used for boat tours at the swamp, and two boat engines were not there.

Police believe the incident could have been an inside job as there was no evidence of forced entry.

It is also believed that the perpetrators used a key to open the locks of the building.

Police fingerprint experts attached to the Central Division were at the scene yesterday.
