PNM sets convention for October

He made the announcement during a press conference following the PNM’s General Council Meeting at San Fernando East Constituency Office on Coffee Street.

Donaldson said party members, comprising of representatives from Siparia, La Brea and Point Fortin, were brought up to date with arrangements for the convention. Asked whether the convention was being held early because of general elections, Donaldson said it was supposed to be either October, November or December. However, he said, they were promised acceleration and more organised activities, hence their reason for having it on October 14 and 15. With regards to the party’s re-launch of its Web site, Donaldson said they had received an overwhelming number of hits.

Donaldson also declared this year as a “Year of Happiness,” as the PNM celebrated its 50th anniversary. So far, he said, there had been celebrations to mark the special occasion in 41 constituencies.

Asked whether members raised the issue of the smelter plant in Chatham which has triggered protest action by some villagers, he indicated the issue was not raised.
