Mechanic killed on beach lime

Driver of the vehicle Clyde Samaroo, 25, and the three other occupants — Russel Bascombe, 18, Suresh Deonath, 19, and Denish Borielal, 16 — were injured and remain warded at the San Fernando General Hospital (SFGH) .

According to a police report, Samaroo was driving his purple Nissan Sentra towards Granville at 5.10 pm on Sunday. On reaching the Chatham Youth Camp, the driver reportedly received a “bad” drive by the driver of another vehicle which did not stop. Samaroo swerved to avoid hitting the vehicle, ran off the road and crashed into an electricity pole. James was in the front passenger seat while Bascombe, Deonath and Borielal, were in the back. They were rushed to the Point Fortin District Facility, and transferred to the SFGH where James subsequently died.

An autopsy conducted on James’ body yesterday revealed that he died from internal bleeding.

Borielal’s father, Sohan, said, “My son Denish, and his three friends, along with my nephew Clyde, decided to go to Granville Beach to make a lime. A short while after they left I received a telephone call from my nephew telling me to come quickly because they had gotten into an accident. I did not believe what I was seeing — blood was everywhere.”

Sohan added, “James is like my son. He learnt his trade at my garage and remained working with me.”

At James’ home yesterday, his sister Jeniffer Reece, 26, said the last time she saw her brother alive was at 10 am on Sunday when he was leaving with his friends to go to Point Fortin.

Jeniffer recalled, “My brother told me he was going to lime and I told him to be careful. Later in the afternoon my mother, Debra, received a telephone call informing her of what had happened. James was my baby brother. I do not know what I would do without him.”
