Another murder in Cunupia

Andy Ramkalawan, 34, a self-employed welder and father of two, was shot by dead in a drive-by shooting near his Ragoo Trace home.

Meanwhile, the manhunt continues for the killers of Christopher Nelson, 48, Renald Elie, 46, Gerald Gibson, 52, and 23-year-old, Willard Cantaro Ravello.

The men were gunned down by two masked gunmen while playing dominoes outside a parlour at Kernahan Trace, Cunupia, last Friday night.

According to police reports, Ramkala-wan was standing at Ragbir Trace at 10 am, when he was shot six times by occupants in a silver car. Residents claimed Ramkalawan had a longstanding with people of the area, police said.

He died on the spot. The body was taken to the Forensic Science Centre for an autopsy.

No one has been held in the killing and no motive for the killing has been determined.

Deenai Ramkalawan, the victim’s father, told Newsday he needed help to bury his son.

“I am a pensioner and I need help to bury him,” Deenai said at his Ragoo Trace home.

The grieving father said he could not understand why someone would murder his son.

“He was a jolly person except sometimes he was miserable!”

Chaguanas Member of Parliament, Manohar Ramsaran, said, “This murder will be another edition to my debate.”

Ramsaran said that he had filed a motion in Parliament on the Government’s apparent inability to deal with crime in Central Trinidad.

“I drive pass Montrose Road every day and this must stop now,” Ramsaran said..

Ramsaran said that he knew the Ramkalawan family and he would assist them by calling on the Minister of Social Services, Anthony Roberts, to assist them.

Ramsaran continued, “Hopefully the Government can pass an act to assist victims of crime. The act has not been put in place with the spate of crime in the area. There is an urgent need to proclaim the act. Nothing has happened over the past few years and the spate of murders in the country is growing.”

The Homicide Bureau of Investigations is investigating.

The murder toll now stands at 253.
