We’ll miss you, Stan

Later, he moved to the Trinidad Guardian and served in different capacities until he retired as Night Editor.

But like so many newsmen of that era, retirement simply meant moving to another newspaper — and this Stan did going to work for a weekly publication until he joined the staff of Newsday as this newspaper in its early days began to make a name for itself. He remained a dedicated member of the Newsday editorial staff until illness forced him to his second retirement.

But for Stan, illness was something one dealt with. He fought as hard as he could, battling one health problem after the other. He was in and out of hospital but never giving up, not even when he suffered the loss of one leg. He used a motorised wheel chair to move around, arriving in it and with a twinkle in his eyes in June last at Fatima College for a Mass to celebrate the 50th anniversary of his marriage with Joyce.

Stan, as everyone called him, will be fondly remembered by his many colleagues and friends.

Newsday extends its deep condolences to Joyce, who cared so faithfully for him, their six children and grandchildren.
