‘Ramchie’ wins first Port-of-Spain Duathlon

The race was organised by the Rainbow Warriors Triathlon Club led by nine-times national triathlon champion Jason Gooding and his father Ian.

Ramcharan finished the three-lap run/six laps cycle/three-lap run-event around the capital in 54 minutes 47 seconds. His closest rival was 16-year-old Gavyn Nero, winner of two gold medals at the recent junior CAC Junior Championships , in 59:50.

For his victory Ramchie took home $1,000. Among the women, the finish was close with Nina Chaves, 30, beating all rivals in a time of 1:16.14 while Jacqueline Jodhan, 41, finished on Nina’s heels in 1:16.37, followed by Suzie Elias, 43, in a time of 1:23:34. Sponsors of the event included BG Trinidad and Tobago, Port-of-Spain City Corporation, Coosal’s, PPGPL, Smith’s Engineering, NGC, FCB, TDC, TSTT and Lucozade Sport.

On October 7 and 8, Ramcharan will be challenged by Gooding, winner of the 2005 Coast to Coast race, for the US$3,000 first prize in the 2006 event sponsored by Tropical Power.

It begins in Toco and ends at the Kayak Centre in Chaguaramas. It involves running, cycling and kayaking.
