SAUTT COMES TO TOBAGO SOON

According to Tobago House of Assembly (THA) Chief Secretary Orville London, discussions towards this end were held recently with senior personnel at SAUTT and officers of the Unit who would most likely be assigned to the island within the next two months.

London made the disclosure at Thursday’s sitting of the Assembly as he lamented the shortage of manpower, equipment and other resources within the Tobago police Division. He stressed there was still “serious concern” over this long-standing situation, particularly in the area of the shortage of policemen, and the clearly negative effect it continued to have on the whole question of efficiency in policing of the island.

London was making his contribution to debate on a motion — tabled by Tourism Secretary Neil Wilson — which called on the House to support the Assembly’s “new focus in domestic tourism and other strategies instituted to arrest the downturn in the (Tobago’s) tourism industry.”
