Guyana cyclist wins Federation time trial
Williams topped a large field which included Colin Wilson of Team Trek, Phillip Clarke of Barbados and Shannon Metivier of Madonna Wheelers. Despite the staging of the Carib Great Race speedboat event to Tobago, approximately 33 riders braved the inclement weather to participate in the 13-kilometre road race (six laps on the M2 Ring Road) from Screamers on the South Trunk Road, La Romaine. Williams won in a time of 17 minutes 20.90 seconds, ahead of Wilson who returned 17:29.37. Clarke was third in 17:42.08 while the Madonna Wheelers cyclist Metivier was fourth. The race is part of the preparation for the coming Caribbean Cycling Championships which will be held in Tortola in October as well as the upcoming Tobago Cycling Classic.
The race was also being staged by the TTCF to keep local cyclists active. Scott Jaggessar of Madonna Wheelers topped the juniors in Saturday’s first stage, while Alexander Gibbon won the the juvenile category.
