Army b-ballers blow out Shak Attack

In the first match, a Second Division semi-final, Straker Nets recorded their seventh consecutive victory 84-61 over TSTT bmobile to take a 1-0 lead in the best-in-three series.

Playing without their leading scorer Steven “Lighter” Lewis and shooting guard Marvin Celestine — both on suspension for their involvement in a brawl against Drillers last Thursday — Defence Force never looked short on talent.

The Army/Coast Guard team led 27-24 after the first quarter but trailed 45-43 at half-time.

Shak Attack started the match without their point-guard Kenneth Roberts, who signed in at the start of the third quarter, but not even his presence could unsettled Defence Force, the zone’s 2006 champions who took a 65-63 lead.

In the fourth and final quarter, Defence Force outscored Shak Attack 31-10 to close out the match to stay second on the eight-team standings behind the “Attack” team.

Competition in the Supligen North Zone Basketball League was forced to be shifted to the Tacarigua venue because of indoor hockey and Carifesta which will be staged on the indoor courts of the Jean Pierre Complex, Mucurapo until October 2. As a result, the North Zone would delay the playing of their First, Second and Women’s Divisions knock-out competitions. The zone will now focus on the completion of the Men’s First Division and the Big-Four finals.

Sunday’s Results:
