DAILY PAID WAGES UNIONS TO MARCH
Giuseppi said he hopes this would force Government’s hand in making a decision on the issue.
He said his union came to this conclusion after receiving a call at 8.30 yesterday morning from the Chief Personnel Officer (CPO), who revealed that Government had reached an impasse in wage negotiations.
He said subsequent to the march the union expects to meet with Cabinet to discuss what he believes is Government’s apparent disregard for the collective bargaining process.
Giuseppi said his union no longer has faith in the Government and that they were prepared to take legal action against Government’s breach of section 41 of the Industrial Relations Act.
He said the act clearly states that on meeting with the bargaining unit, Government is compelled to reach an agreement thus completing negotiations.
Giuseppi said the PNM was trying to dictate the collective bargaining process and that his union would not allow this to happen.
Giuseppi said any further delay in wage negotiations would prompt his union to step up their protests.
