Barca win Maloney Under-14 final
The Barca boys downed Little Magicians four to two in the final at the Maloney Recreation Ground.
Shaquille Roberts gave Barca the lead when he shot hard and low in the 20th minute, and Shaquille Bertrand doubled the advantage in the 25th.
But Little Magicians pulled something out of the hat to reduce the scored in the 35th minute when Marcus Pryie scored.
Bertrand got his second goal of the match in the 40th to give Barca back their two-goal advantage.
But still Little Magicians battled on to reduce the scores to three to two when Jevone Telesford found the net. Five minutes before the end, however, Isreal Honore scored to give Barca the victory. The goal made Honore the leading goal-scorer in the Under-14 category with four, one ahead of Krestan Alleyne.
And Honore was also voted “Most Valuable Player” and Pryie the “Most Discplined.” Anthony Lee Foon got the prize for being “Most Exciting Player,” with the “Most Improved Player” award going to Jamaal Walcott.
Rangers won all six of their matches to become champions in the Under-16 bracket.
They whipped Boys In The Band 3-1 in the final with Cornell Miguel, Jerome Wharwood and Jamell Charles scoring. Nathan Lewis got the consolation.
Earlier, Rangers slipped into the final by edging Building 10 3-2 on penalty kicks after they played to a 0-0 tie at the end of regulation time. Keno McHutchinson with five goals was the leading scorer and later named “Most Valuable Player.”
Nathan Julien, Kevin Ramasary and Wharwood with three goals each were runners-up in the goal-scoring category.
President of the league, Patrick TV “Pops” Charles thanked Petrotrin, NLCB, CLICO, Home Restaurant, NIPDEC, PowerGen, Swimcol, MAD, Angostura, TTEC, Caribbean Finance and 3M for supporting the competition.
