Positives results at diabetes camp

The free live-in camp was hosted by the TSTT Foundation and the Diabetes Association of Trinidad and Tobago (DATT). TSTT has been the camp’s main sponsor for the past four years and, through the foundation, remains committed to helping children with diabetes by supporting this enjoyable and educational activity.

“The camp has been a platform for the children to have fun while learning how to manage their condition so as to lead normal lives,” says Dawn Solomon, manager Employee Assistance Programme — TSTT.

During the camp, the children learnt how to administer insulin, use blood glucose monitors and choose an appropriate diet — all essential skills for managing their health. They also participated in fun activities such as games, story-telling and field trips.

Camp coordinator Marcia Rollock said lasting friendships were usually forged at the camp and these helped the children to deal with their condition and life in general in a more positive way. She said the camp also empowered the children to help educate others about diabetes.
