Independence village sports at Ste Madeleine

Some 20 villages will participate in sports activities to commemorate 44 years of Independence. This annual event is staged by the village foundation.

Village activist and chairman of the foundation, Ramdeo Boochoon, said that the organisation has been an active community-base group for several years.

The foundation organises activities in villages in the field of sports, culture and education. The organisation recently staged a series of lectures on crime and family at various communities in rural south Trinidad.

“We encourage our youths, clubs, teams and all sports-minded citizens to get involved, so that together we can struggle against the negative influences and strive to create a better community,” Boochoon said.

Today celebrations will kick off with a 6 am marathon, walking, cycling race and “morning dash.” Track and Field events will commence at 1 pm, followed by a football competition. Villages and clubs are invited to participate in today’s activities.
