Chaos to clear vehicles

What obtains for a system at present is like a school “Brantub” game, one of hit and miss filled with expected and agonising delays. In short it is primitive and time consuming. Locating and retrieving a stored vehicle is not always accurate, leading to considerable delay. Looking and finding keys in the myriad of bundles in various little boxes is like trying to put pieces of a jigsaw puzzle together.

I can sympathise with “the Key man/Keymen” on any day. This area is now almost filled to capacity. A system for speedy delivery of vehicles at the Port seems light years away, or not important. Additionally, the Customs and Excise Division needs to increase their manpower to facilitate speed in the examination of vehicles. At present there are two officers stationed there. The number should be twice as much as each vehicle has to be inspected before delivery is sanctioned.

Customs clerks are normally criticised for complacency and inefficiency. However, they are serious about their jobs and given the right environment they can be quite productive. Finally, the Port must look closely again at the system in order to eliminate inaccurate locations and remove much of the bundle of confusion with keys belonging to the hundreds of vehicles stored at the Port. The system is crying out for streamlining in order to have speed and efficiency in the process. Too much time is wasted to clear one vehicle on the Port-of-Spain Port.
