UNC on election footing

After the Strategy Committee of the UNC Executive met at Rienzi Complex, Couva, yesterday, Persad-Bissessar told Newsday it had commenced discussions for winning the General Elections, which are constitutionally due by next year.

The Strategy Committee meeting discussed the setting up of mechanisms for beating the ruling PNM and forming the next Government, and from today there will be a number of mobilisation meetings throughout the week, she said.

Former chairman Basdeo Panday will address the parliamentary arm and other party members at the Couva South office from 6.30 pm today.

Panday advised that the Strategy Committee following his advice that it should set up a War Council, whose recommendations would be required to go to the Executive for ratification concerning its structural features.

The War Council will comprise several subcommittees dealing with different functions that are vital for winning the elections, Persad-Bissessar said.
