Biche man freed of trafficking charge

Harry Seepersad Ramlogan, 42, of O’Brien Road, Biche was tried before Justice Anthony Carmona at the Port-of-Spain First Criminal Court for possession of 18 kilos of marijuana for the purpose of trafficking.

After deliberating for the stipulated three hours, the foreman of the nine-member panel indicated the jury had not reached a unanimous decision, and would not do so if given more time to deliberate.

Eight of the jurors were in favour of acquitting Ramlogan, while one voted for a conviction.

Carmona accepted the majority vote and informed Ramlogan that he was free to go.

Ramlogan was charged with the offence on August 8, 2003, when he was allegedly found by police in possession of the drugs at a track. State attorney Aden Stroude prosecuted.
