‘BACK TO SCHOOL SALE’ GETS COTT HOTT SPOTT AWARD

Many business owners have recognised music as one of the main ingredients to the success of a business setting.

At the presentation ceremony, both the Mayor of Port-of- Spain and the president of Downtown Owners and Merchants’ Association (DOMA) were in high praise of COTT’s positive drive in rewarding corporate entities who uphold the law.

“I would like to appeal to other establishments to do likewise like RIK Services, so we will have many HOTT SPOTTs in the city of Port-of -Spain,” said Alderman Murchison Brown.

President of DOMA, Gregory Aboud, said too, “Our artistes are faced with damages by two groups. The businesses that do not comply with COTT are setting a bad example and depriving the artistes for what is rightfully theirs. The other group is the people on the sidewalk. They are literally taking the wind out of the sales of the entire music industry in TT.”

“For the last 12 years, RIK, with its six branches nationwide, has maintained an exceptional path as a compliant music user upholding the law and respecting creativity. COTT applauds such responsible actions with the understanding that the revenue from licences translates to royalties for our members and is the creators’ just reward for their creativity,” said COTT communications officer, Vindra Dhanraj.

Double RR Restaurant of Endeavour, Chaguanas was May’s recipient. In June, the award was given to the 95-year-old South business Nandlal & Sons Ltd, of High Street, San Fernando, while the July award was presented to Hendrix, The Original Sunday School Ltd in Tobago.

The award is a monthly presentation to businesses across Trinidad and Tobago which would then carry a COTT endorsement saying “Buy Here and Support Music in TT.”

This distinction would also be given to other entrepreneurs who may not receive the monthly honour but whom COTT deems worthy of distinction.
