Prisoner to testify in Emily’s murder case

Deputy Director of Public Prosecutions Roger Gaspard yesterday informed Deputy Chief Magistrate Mark Wellington, in the San Fernando Magistrates’ Court, that the prisoner, Anthony Rock, who is at Golden Grove Prison, Arouca, is one of six more witnesses to give evidence.

On Gaspard’s request, Wellington made a note to have the prisoner brought down from the prison.

Gaspard informed the magistrate that his other witnesses include Sgt Hamid, Cpl Parryman, Dr Des Vignes and Dr Pulchan.

Yesterday Cpl Sean Dhilpaul of the Homicide Bureau of Investigations in San Fernando was the only state witness called to give evidence. The detective testified for 30 minutes and was cross-examined by King’s attorney El Farouk Hosein.

Since the inquiry started on August 10, eight witnesses have testified. Emily, of Ste Madeleine Road, Marabella, was murdered on May 15.

Wellington adjourned the inquiry to next Wednesday.

In the same court, Emily’s mother, Anita Anamanthodo, 18, re-appeared on seven charges of child neglect and abandonment. Anamanthodo told Wellington that she had a problem and wanted to be taken to the hospital. Court Prosecutor Sgt Haricharan Kassie informed the magistrate that he will arrange to have the accused taken to the hospital for treatment.

Anamanthodo had been granted $45,000 bail but, unable to secure bail, continues to remain in custody.

The matter was adjourned to September 15.
