Artists highlight TT’s landscapes

The exhibition is titled “The Simple Life” as the two artists use the beauty of Trinidad and Tobago’s natural landscape as part of their inspiration.

Painting since 1980, Shawn Borde works with a variety of mediums including oils, acrylics, watercolours and oil pastels. Borde, who loves this country’s natural scenery, is able to transmit the natural ambiance of the environment onto the canvas with a realistic look and feel of its true beauty.

Borde, who describes himself as “Trini to de Bone,” is not only an artist but a panman and parandero.

This love for culture also enables him to portray the essence of his cultural heritage in a meaningful way that inspires people through his works.

Stephen Arneaud is a self-taught artist who has been painting since 1983.

A deeply religious man, Arneaud is a full time minister in the Ministry of Jehovah Witness. His work is greatly influenced by the teachings of his church, which believes in a world of no wars or crime, but a peaceful co-existence and paradise.

This sense of paradise is reflected in the detailed work of his tropical landscapes and in the quiet everyday scenes of his paintings.

Born August 25, 1961, in Trinidad, Arneaud has been living in Tobago for the past six years.

He said the peaceful and natural ambiance of Tobago gives him the inspiration he needs to paint the subject matter he loves the most — nature.
