W Connection beat local rivals San Juan Jabloteh 1-0 in the CFU Final at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium in Marabella on Sunday night to snatch their third Caribbean club title.

The result gave W Connection a remarkable 19th championship title since entering competitive football in 1999 and John-Williams believes this regional club title is among his most cherished.

“This one is special because from the standpoint that we set our sights on winning the Caribbean title this year,” John-Williams told CMC Sport on Monday.

“It was an objective for the team this season and when you put in all the hard work and you achieve the objective I think this one rates among one of the best,” he added.

W Connection boast three Professional Football League (PFL) titles, three FA Trophy crowns and four FCB Cup titles in TT among their 19 titles.

Andre Pacheco netted an 11th minute goal and fired W Connection to their CFU championship winning result over San Juan Jabloteh, adding to the Caribbean titles they had won in 2001 and 2002.

They had marched into the final with a tense 3-2 win over Jamaica’s Harbour View, former CFU Club champions, on Friday night at the same venue.

Coached by St Lucian Stuart Charles-Fevrier, W Connection will now meet CD Guadalajara of Mexico in the quarter-final round of the CONCACAF Champions’ Cup, in a home-and-away series on February 13 and 28.

John-Williams is confident his players can measure up to the CONCACAF opposition since their results in their previous outings were competitive.

In 2002, W-Connection lost 6-5 on aggregate to Mexico’s Toluca and the following year went out 2-3 (aggregate) to the American club Kansas City Wizards.
