J’ca name experienced n-ball squad
KINGSTON: Netball officials yesterday named a Jamaican squad to play in next month’s World Netball Championships, with seven players returning from the last tournament in New Zealand.
The July 10-20 tournament brings 24 teams to Jamaica’s capital, Kingston, including world champs Australia and other top teams England, South Africa and New Zealand. This year’s Jamaican team includes seven players from the 1999 squad, which finished fourth in that tournament, the Jamaica Netball Association said in a statement. The returning players are captain Oberon Pitterson, vice-captain Elaine Davis, Althea Byfield, Sharon Wiles, Georgia Gordon, Nadine Bryan and former skipper Connie Francis. Newcomers include Kasey Evering, Nichala Gibson, Carla Williams, Tiffanni Wolfe and Simone Forbes. The squad is coached by Maureen Hall.
