Caroni crowned Atlantic Primary Schools champs

Caroni captain Kissoondath Magram, capped a magnificent all-round performance winning the “Man-of-the-Match” award, and his players were mobbed by delirious supporters at the end of the final.

Kissoondath virtually carried Caroni’s batting on his shoulders, scoring 58 runs out of his team’s total of 111 for seven wickets from their 20 overs.

Kerron Benny was Victoria’s best bowler, taking two wickets for nine runs from four overs.

In reply, Victoria could only muster 76 for nine from their allotted 20 overs, with Benny topscoring with 19. Magram returned figures of two for 14 from four overs, He got good support from Kamil Pooran, two for nine from three overs.

Teams representing the eight education districts in Trinidad and Tobago contested the Inter-District (Boys) competition.

Head coach of the victorious Caroni team, Bernard Hart said the team put in several hours of intense practice for the competition. He said it was a challenge to mould the players as a team since they came from seven different schools in the district. Hart was assisted by fellow coaches Krishna Mangallie, Navin Harry and Aleem Mohammed. Manager is Joyce Ishmael.

Captain Magram said he was proud of his fellow players who all contributed to the victory.

Victoria’s coach, Robert Mahabir, praised his team for a valiant effort, vowing to take the title next year. Mahabir shared coaching duties with Bally Ram and Glen Dwarika.

Anthony Ramjit, president of the National Primary Schools Cricket League, who presented the championship trophy to Magram, congratulated both teams for a match well played. “You comprise some of the best cricketing talent the country has to offer at your age. Keep up the discipline and hard work and always strive for the best,” Ramjit urged the young stars.

Caroni play Super League champions Clarke Rochard Government in a season-ending 20/20 match at Inshan Ali Park today.

Earlier at the same venue, Cunapo (St Francis) RC meet Rochard Douglas Presbyterian in the Inter-School (Girls) championship match.
