TT hosts third CFU Youth Cup
The annual CFU tournament will have 19 Caribbean sides along with invited guest team of El Salvador, who will enter the 2007 competition in the quarterfinal round.
The first round of the 2007 CFU Youth Cup will have five groups playing in five venues: Bacolet, Macoya, Malabar, Marabella and Port of Spain from August 18-23.
The group winners along with the two best second-place finishers will join El Salvador in the quarterfinals on August 26. The semifinals are scheduled for August 28, with the third-place match and final set for two days later at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo.
Canada won the first CFU Youth Cup after defeating Guatemala by a score of 4-0 in the final held at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on August 13, 2005. Jamaica took the third-place honours earlier in the day with a 3-0 win over the hosts.
Last year, Mexico captured the CFU Youth Cup, when it was an U-16 event, after topping Haiti 3-0 in the final at the Hasely Crawford Stadium on August 27. The 2006 tournament, which also doubled as the Caribbean Preliminary Qualification to the CONCACAF U-17 Final Round, had Trinidad and Tobago taking third at the CFU Youth Cup following a 2-0 triumph over Jamaica.
