Caledonia have a two-point edge over CL Financial San Juan Jabloteh, who will meet Joe Public in their Match Day Eight contest on November 20.
W Connection climbed to fourth place with a comfortable 3-0 win over Tobago United at the Dwight Yorke Stadium, Bacolet on Tuesday.
And North East Stars moved up to the crucial sixth position with a 3-0 trouncing of the struggling Defence Force in the second of back-to-back matches at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella on Wednesday.
And United Petrotrin dropped from sixth to seventh when they fell 2-1 to Superstar Rangers in the opening fixture at Marabella.
Matches in Round Three Match Day Nine are scheduled for Tuesday, with the top six teams on the standings advancing to the Lucozade-sponsored Big Six tournament.
Police, lingering at ninth place for the majority of the season, went ahead in the first minute through striker Adrian Nunez but midfielder Abdullah Phillip responded with a double for Caledonia, in the 51st and 84th minutes, while Guyanese forward Nigel Codrington sealed the come-from-behind triumph in the 89th.
Connection struggled to break down the rugged Tobago defence, despite a sixth minute item from Trinidad and Tobago forward Andre Toussaint in the sixth minute, as the “Savonetta lads” only had the win secured in the 81st courtesy Dominican Republic forward Jonathan Frias.
Midfielder Hughton Hector ensured there was no way back for the hosts when he found the back of the net in stoppage time.
North East Stars has undergone a very disappointing season, but they needed only three minutes to open the scoring against the “Teteron Lads” courtesy defender Errol Charles, who headed Christian Okonwko’s right-sided cross past goalkeeper Selwyn George.
Okonwko, a striker from Nigeria, doubled North East’s advantage in the 41st and he moved past midfielders Anton Joseph and Jerwyn Balthazar and placed his right-footer to George’s right. And substitute Sherwayne Morris took advantage of a flat-footed defence to poke home North East’s third in the 86th.
Both teams finished the match with ten men, as Charles and Defence Force’s Keston Williams were dismissed for collecting a pair of bookable offences.
Striker Abiola Clarence broke the deadlock against his old team when he put Rangers in front after 32 minutes, after a nice midfield buildup, but Brent Garcia tied the scores in the 78th, placing his volley past Rangers’ goalie Shane Mattis following a right-sided centre from Sylvester Teesdale.
Petrotrin’s joy only lasted two minutes, as Rangers’ in-form striker Josimar Belgrave linked up with national Under-23 midfielder Christon Thomas and shot past Petrotrin’s keeper Tristan Charles.
