Hope, prayer for Christmas

I also pray for those who have lost loved ones through murder, who have been traumatised by rape, kidnapping, robbery and other such events. I pray that God will give them the strength this Christmas and all the new year through to get through this trying time. May the good Lord look down upon our country and have mercy on us all, for it is only in Him we can trust. We cannot depend on those who govern us or on those whose jobs are to serve and protect. Unfortunately, this is a reality we all have to face. So I pray that the good Lord will intervene in all that is happening and send an awakening to all in power as well as to those who choose to prey on the innocence of this country. I pray that He will show them the way, for I firmly believe that He sees and knows all. And although it may seem to most, especially myself, that God does not hear our prayer, I will continue to hold steadfast in my faith, as I hope all of us will.

And Mr Prime Minister, this is a special prayer for you. May God bless you and yours in your new multi-million dollar home. May your Christmas be a bright one as you and yours sit around your Christmas tree opening your extravagant gifts and sit around the table which I am sure will be laden with the best food and drink. But I also pray that you will think on this special day, about those whose tables are empty because they cannot afford the same things you can. I also pray that God will bless and protect your home, so that you may never experience being woken in the night with a gun to your face, and may you and yours never have to endure something as degrading and horrifying as rape or being tied up, your life being threatened, sure that you will never again see the light of day.

But God has blessed you with security Mr Prime Minister, so we in this country know that this is unlikely to happen to you. You see Mr Prime Minister this happened to me three days after the election, after your government returned to power. A group of men broke into my home and placed a gun to my head and a knife to my throat, and tied up my parents. They slammed their gun into my sister’s face, leaving her scarred for life, not just physically , but also emotionally.

So Mr Prime Minister, though I may feel hate and resentment toward your government for failing to protect not only my family, but every family of Trinidad and Tobago, I will still pray for you and your family’s safety.
