Heese was accompanied by Franco Siu Chong, president of the Dragon Boat racing, which was introduced to the public during the Chinese Bicentennial celebrations, and has gained popularity.

Many teams have been formed and compete at the Federation’s occasional tournaments.

The Training Course will include theory and practical sessions, as well as an examination and evaluation.

The Federation’s ob-jective in bringing Heese to Trinidad is to equip local coaches in the sport to improve their techniques so that Trinidad and Tobago may soon compete in international tournaments.

Fred Heese is a former national sprint canoer for Canada, competing at World Championship and Olympic levels.

He coached the first non-Asian team to win the men’s race at the prestigious Hong Kong International Dragon Boat Festival in 1996.

Heese is also the author of a Level I Course for Dragon Boat Canada and conducts coaching clinics in Canada and Singapore.
