63-member Carifta team picked

Among the hopefuls for medals in the regional junior track and field championships include the speedy Moriba Morain and Michelle-Lee Ahye.

Others tipped to land gold medals are Garvyn Nero who broke two records at the games last year and Quincy Wilson who also produced record-breaking performances at the discus and shot put.

Middle distant runner Samantha Shukla, 100-metres dasher Kendall Bacchus and Shermin Lasaldo have also been included in the team.

The athletes were selected by a committee following their performances at the Carifta Trials at the Hasely Crawford Stadium over the weekend.

The list was ratified by the Executive committee on Monday before being released by the National Amateur Athletic Association’s (NAAAs) Public Relation’s Officer (PRO) Peter Samuel yesterday.

The team is being coached by former national Olympian Edwin Skinner who will be assisted by two track, jump and throwing coaches.

They are Ali St Louis and Althea Busby (track coaches); Heathcliff Thorne and Michelle Alleyne Pennie (Jump coaches) and Ismael Mustapha-Lopez and Wade Franklyn (throwing coaches).

It is being managed by Dexter Voisin with Allan Baboolal as his assistant. Anyl Goopeesingh is the doctor and David Cumberbatch Physiotherapist, while Michelle Stoute has been selected as the Chaperone.

The Carifta Games will be staged over the Easter Weekend, March 22, 23 and 24.
