From stage to screen
A Winter Tale has won the Outstanding Canadian Feature Film Award at the prestigious ReelWorld Film Festival in April 2007, and in November the film was selected to open the 15th annual African Diaspora Film Festival in Manhattan. The film’s Red Carpet Media Screening and Event Launch will take place in Trinidad tomorrow.
The official kick-off of the week of activities highlighting the film began yesterday with the workshop “From Stage to Screen” hosted by the Trinidad and Tobago Entertainment Company Limited (T&T Ent). A group of select actors, script writers and directors from the local theatre community learned techniques to assist the transition from work in theatre to the screen. They will engage in actual production and gain an understanding of the differences between the stage and TV/Film formats. With increasing job prospects created in the film sector, T&T Ent is moving forward to help members of the theatre fraternity widen their skills and options for employment.
Participants had the rare opportunity to get hands on, interactive experience from Artistic Director of the Lyric Project in Vancouver Michele Lonsdale-Smith, 1995 Genie Nominee Peter Williams, Jamaica’s First Lady of film and theatre, the internationally recognised Leonie Forbes, and the award-winning Solomon.
