3Canal in London for mas

3Canal were in the UK as part of their European summer tour. In an interview while there, 3canal described the genre of rapso music, a conscious music which they defined as “the consciousness of soca”. Soca music is derived from calypso and is more synonymous with celebration and partying, than rapso which addresses political issues and social commentary.

When 3canal began their musical journey in the Carnival of 1997 with the song “Blue”, it was purely a bit of fun for four friends; Roger Roberts, Wendell Manwarren, Stanton Kewley and John Isaacs.

However, “Blue” became a massive hit, and they decided to take making music more seriously. Sadly, Isaacs passed away in 2000, and since then 3canal has remained

a trio.

As part of their evolution, they moved away from performing over soundtracks and put together a band called The Cut and Clear crew which accompanies them on tour all over the world.

3canal are currently working with British producer Richard Blair on their new album which is due for release in early 2009.
