‘History of Trinidad Oil’ in all TT libraries
The handover, which took place at the National Library recently, was a collaborative effort between bpTT and the Society of Petroleum Engineers to ensure that this publication, described by Prime Minister Patrick Manning as “the most comprehensive document of its kind in existence” would not fade into obscurity but instead be kept as a vital source of information on the history of the domestic petroleum industry.
A History of Trinidad Oil was written by George Higgins, a petroleum geologist, who worked for decades in the local energy sector. The book outlines the growth of the Trinidad oil industry starting with the discovery of the Pitch Lake in the sixteenth century and concludes with a summary update to the end of 1990.
Speaking at the handover, bpTT’s corporate communications manager, Danielle Bailey noted “bPTT remains committed to education and believes the best way to keep this history alive is to ensure copies of the book are placed in all the national and school libraries throughout NALIS’ capable distribution network.”
She noted that bpTT’s gesture was “aimed at ensuring this valuable publication would not go out of circulation but instead foster a greater understanding of today’s national energy industry.”
