Naps go for four straight

NAPARIMA will be aiming for their fourth successive win today in the South Zone of the British Gas Secondary Schools Football League (SSFL) when they oppose Fyzabad in the second match of a double-header at the Manny Ramjohn Stadium, Marabella.

And zone runners-up St Benedict’s will also look to continue their good form with full points against the winless Presentation San Fernando from 3 pm. Naps have tallied 17 points in their eight matches to date, two more than their La Romain rivals, yet both seem certain to pocket three points apiece at Marabella. Princes Town will face off against former leaders Pleasantville at the Princes Town Grounds while Vessigny battle Mayaro at the Mahaica Oval, Point Fortin. The top four teams in the North will face crucial encounters today, with leaders QRC hosting third-placed Malick while the “Tigers” St Anthony’s travel to the Fatima Grounds to face Fatima. Mucurapo can keep their title aspirations alive with victory over Morvant/Laventille at the Hasely Crawford Stadium, Mucurapo while St Mary’s welcome Diego Martin at the CIC Grounds, St Clair. There seems to be no stopping the “Dial Dynamos” Arima in the East Zone, with the 2002 champs virtually guaranteed a further three points against Barataria at the Barataria Grounds.

The “Green Machine” St Augustine will fancy their chances against Hillview at the Marvin Lee Stadium, Tunapuna, third-placed St George’s travel to Bourg Mulatresse to face San Juan while the inconsistent “Blue Thunder” El Dorado face off against Toco at the Sangre Grande Recreation Ground. Carapichaima can open up a four-point lead over defending Central Zone champs Presentation Chaguanas with victory away to Tabaquite today while in the clash of the bottom-two teams, Union Claxton Bay meet Chaguanas Senior at the Ato Boldon Stadium, Couva. And another double-header is in store in the sister isle Tobago —- at Shaw Park —- with reigning champs Scarborough meeting Bishop’s at 2 pm while leaders Signal Hill face Elizabeth’s two hours later. Other scheduled matches begin at 3.45 pm.
