Abu Bakr matter resumes Nov 18
PAMELA ELDER, the attorney representing Jamaat Al Muslimeen leader Imam Yasin Abu Bakr in the conspiracy to murder charge brought against him, did not turn up at court yesterday for the resumption of her cross-examination of State witness, Sgt Wayne Dick, because she was reportedly ill.
Junior attorney to Elder, Owen Hinds Jnr, made an application for an adjournment, to which Deputy DPP Carla Brown Antoine had no objection. Hearing will resume on November 18 at 1 pm. The Imam and his usual entourage, ceremoniously dressed in preparation for the weekly juma at the Jamaat’s Mucurapo Road compound, calmly exited the court after the adjournment date was announced by Chief Magistrate Sherman McNicolls. Bakr was charged on August 21, 2003, with conspiring to murder two expelled Jamaat members. The two men were shot and wounded on the evening of June 4 just outside the Movie Towne cineplex, Invaders Bay, Audrey Jeffers Highway. The matter is being heard by McNicolls at the Port-of-Spain Magistrates’ Eighth Court.
