Grande woman falls in manhole
Residents, pedestrians, and commuters are calling on the Regional Corporation to have a manhole on the pavement on the Eastern Main Road, Sangre Grande repaired immediately before more people are injured. The manhole is situated next to the taxi stand operating the Sangre Chiquito — Manzanilla route. Several people have already received injuries from the uncovered and unsecured manhole.
The latest victim is a nurse attached to the Sangre Grande Hospital, Jennifer Pierre, who said she was walking from Economy Supermarket to get a taxi to her Boystown home when she fell into the manhole. There was no one to assist her, but she managed to pull herself out, but could not walk. Fortunately, she said a taxi driver saw her and assisted her. Pierre was taken to the Sangre Grande Hospital where she was treated for her injuries. She suffered injuries to her left leg and was unable to go to work for quite sometime. The woman said she is still having pains and has to receive medical attention on a regular basis as a result of the fall. The nurse said she has made several complaints to the Sangre Grande Regional Corporation about her mishap and the open and dangerous manhole on the pavement at the Eastern Main Road, but so far, nothing has been done.
