St Helena man electrocuted
An eighteen-year-old man was yesterday electrocuted while working for his employer.
Sean Harrichand, a concrete pump attendant employed with Coosal Ltd, was carrying out work on a building in St Helena Village, Chaguanas, when the incident occurred. Reports state that Harrichand, of Harrichand Trace, Palmiste was operating the pump when it came into contact with overhead electrical wires causing the youth to be electrocuted. Harrichand’s lifeless body was rushed to the St Helena Medical Centre, where medical personnel on duty pronounced him dead. Eyewitnesses said they heard Harrichand’s screams but they were not able to assist the deceased.
When Newsday contacted Harrichand’s relatives, they said he had only been employed with Coosal’s Ltd for the past two months, and never thought he would have met his death in this manner. With Christmas just around the corner, the distraught relatives said it would be difficult celebrating anything this year, as his death has come as a big shock to the family. Officers attached to the Chaguanas CID visited the scene and PC Maraj is investigating.
