Malabar residents applaud as bandit held

WHILE many people claim they have nothing to be grateful for, the residents of Malabar, Arima, were overjoyed recently and broke out in sporadic applause following the timely action of Arima police, which led to the arrest of a man who had only minutes before robbed a proprietor. At around 7.45 am yesterday police/army patrol on foot patrol in Banyan Boulevard, Malabar, observed a man acting suspiciously. He was searched and a 12-gauge home-made shotgun with six rounds of ammunition was found. The man was arrested and while being walked back to the police vehicle, another car pulled up and a woman pointed him out as the man who robbed her grocery a few minutes before.

The 19-year-old man, who gave two addresses in Malabar and Guayaguayare Road, Rio Claro, was further searched and cash totalling $723 and a phone were retrieved. Observers broke out into loud hand claps, expressing gratitude for the police/army patrol and the work they have been doing all over the country since the patrols spread out to the different divisions. Officers at the scene were Cpl Blacks, PC Singh and Jagoo, along with lance/Cap’t Simon and private Kean. PC Jagoo is leading the investigating. The arrested man is expected to appear before an Arima magistrate on Monday following his appearance before several identification parades.
