Maraval fatality worries police

THE recent road accident in Maraval that has left one dead and two injured has caused the police grave concerns. “We are pleading with the driving community and pedestrians to take extra precautions, especially around this time,” ACP Mobile Curtis Lloyd told Newsday. “With the high levels of alcohol consumption around this time we are pleading with motorists and drivers as a whole not to take unnecessary chances. “While we have no clear cut scientific data, the reports of fatalites from accidents are alarming.” Lloyd was making his comment after a fatal accident in the La Sieva, Maraval area which claimed the life of one and injured two.

According to reports, Jeron Rogers,  Chamar Condos, Maraval was the passenger in a red Toyota Corolla driven by Jason Mangray, 27, of La Pastora Village,  Santa Cruz around 12.45 am Tuesday morning along Saddle Road, Maraval in the vicinity of the La Sieva RC school when the driver lost control and ran into a lightpole killing Rogers instantly. Mangray and another passenger Paul Joseph, 17, of  Maraval Main Road were both rushed to the Port-of-Spain General Hospital and treated. Joseph has since been discharged. In a report made to the police it is alledged that the trio were on their way to buy chicken when Mangray attempted to avoid hitting an uncoming truck and disaster struck. When contacted police told Newsday they believe at that time in the morning speed and alchohol had a lot to do with the accident. In an unrelated matter investigators are still investigating the circumstances under which Kelly-Tamara O’Brien was killed.

O’Bried 25, of Upper St Barbs road, Laventille was killed by a Public Transport Service Commission bus as she attempted to cross the Eastern Main Road in Arima onMonday. According to police report around 4.20am on Monday  the driver was in the vicinity of the Double Bridge, Arima when suddenly the woman jumped in front the us and was fataly crushed. Family have since denied she was suicidal, while police are still trying to decide what led to the death. Whether she was accidentally or deliberately knocked down by the bus. Sgt Gardener is investigating.
