Anglican Church hosts service at Adam Smith Sq

The All Saints Anglican Church will host a healing and thanksgiving service to-morrow at Adam Smith Square in Woodbrook. Earlier this year at a service in the Playboyz Steelband Panyard, the idea of a healing and thanksgiving service was born. It was suggested that all steelbands in the Woodbrook area should come together at the end of the year and give thanks for all the blessings received throughout the year. About a month ago, at a mission service at the Silver Stars Panyard, the idea came up again, and the theme “Healing and Thanksgiving” was agreed upon. The panmen behind this venture feel they have a lot to be thankful for. They also recognise that the society is hurting because of the crime in the country and the general breakdown in morality and social values.

People feel deprived, depressed, and that there is no vision for the future in their lives. Many people feel there is no hope. They plan to use this service to address that perception. They hope to use the analogy of the steel pan evolving from discarded oil drums to become a quality musical instrument, a harp of gold as Calypsonian Duke described it, to motivate the community. Despite the apparent low self-esteem of many, they will be seeking, with the guidance of the Holy Spirit, to inspire such people to discover their own self worth. The panmen hope to reach out to the grassroots, the man in the street, and give them a new sense of purpose.

The activity starts at 5 pm, when the congregation will be serenaded by the steelbands. The actual service will begin at 5.30 pm and would run for approximately an hour and a half. The service will feature a tune played by each band. After the formal service, the healing segment will commence and continue until all wishing to receive the laying on of hands and prayers have been satisfied. The bands scheduled to perform are: Playboyz, Starlift, Modernaires, Silver Stars, Invaders and Phase II Pan Groove. The public is invited to attend.
