‘Trini to the Bone’ is Song of the Year
THE EVER POPULAR “Trini to the Bone” has been declared Song of the Year by the National Action Cultural Committee (NACC). This declaration was made at the Annual Stars of Gold Award Ceremony, which took place Saturday evening at the Cascadia Hotel Ballroom, St Anns. The annual event honoured 20 calypsonians who were adjudged as having the top 20 compositions for 2003. The event was attended by a number of dignitaries including President George Maxwell Richards, Commissioner of Police Everald Snaggs and United States Ambassador Roy Austin. “Trini to the Bone” was composed by Ian Wiltshire and sung by David Rudder and Carl Jacobs. Rudder’s mother, Elsie, received the award on their behalf and Jacobs’ daughter Trini Jacobs rendered the winning selection.
The other calypsonians all rendered their award-winning selections to the delight of the audience. Some of the more popular compositions included “No War” by Luta, “Sacred and Profane” by Marva Mc Kenzie, “Power” by Manchild, “Icons” by De Fosto and “How Much is Enough” rendered by Duke. President Richards appeared quite entertained with Manchild and Duke’s performances. Several musicians were also honoured, including Hugh Queely (drummer), Trevor Callender (saxophonist) and John Alexander (trumpet). Guest artistes included the Susan Mohip Dancers, NACC Drummers and Sheldon Blackman and the Love Circle who also received an award for the song “Watch Out My Children.”
